đ± How to overcome the fear of the unknown in business
(3.5 min read) 3 Concepts, 2 Frameworks, 1 Proverb Pic
Happy Sunday! This is the Christian Entrepreneur, the weekly newsletter that helps Christian entrepreneurs overcome their fears and grow their businesses.
Let's dive into this week's email and take the fright out of business.

3 Growth concepts
Concept #1
To become an entrepreneur or build a startup you gotta lose your fear of failure. You have to be willing to fail. You have to fall down to learn how to get up back up and keep going. Sometimes you have to get it wrong to learn how get it right.
My Takeaway: We are taught to avoid mistakes and failure. But the secret to entrepreneurship is that mistakes and failures are a part of the process. If you are afraid to make mistakes and fail, then you never take the shot. Remove the fear of failure then you will take as many shots as it takes to make the goal. It would be unreasonable for you to not score if you had unlimited shots to take. So the secret is not to give up. It's like never playing basketball before and not taking a shot because you're afraid you will miss it.
Concept #2
Fear of delegation is a crippling disease for entrepreneurs
My Takeaway: We do not delegate because we fear that the person we delegate to will not do it as well as us. And we are right. However, this should not stop us from delegating. No one is going to do it better than the founder. However, my coach says 80% by someone else is 100% awesome. If you're finding it hard to delegate take a look at who you are delegating to. It makes it much more difficult to delegate when you're only getting 50% of the quality you would have done. But when you have somebody that can give you 80% or more you will have the confidence to delegate.
Concept #3
The paradox of specificity: The narrower your focus, the bigger the result.
My Takeaway: Most people just see the Amazon of today and try to copy that. But Amazon started with just books. Most people try to go too big in the beginning and get logged jammed with all the problems that come with execution. It took many years for Amazon to be able to build out the logistics to be able to ship anything but they started with books. We are afraid to start small and get specific because we think that we will miss out on the bigger opportunity. But the reality is what really kills the bigger opportunity is not being able to execute well on your niche. Once you have nailed your niche you can expand from there.
2 Personal frameworks
1. Most people are afraid to ask.
The squeaky wheel gets the oil. I was annoyed by that statement for a long time. I felt like asking was taking what is not yours. I wanted to be given things out of merit not annoy people into giving. Therefore, I was also afraid to ask because I might be denied. Then I realized that the people who ask, receive regardless if they deserve it or not. Sometimes people who donât deserve things get them just because they ask. We are afraid to ask for a sale, ask for a promotion, or ask for anything. But the reason why we need to ask is because people are just not thinking about you. Everyone is consumed with their own priorities and agendas and asking for something makes people pause and think. Once I saw asking as a neutral thing, I was able to ask without feeling greedy. Ask and you shall receive.
2. If perfection is your bar, then itâs very difficult to start
I wish I was a better writer when I started writing this newsletter. I wish I was a smarter entrepreneur when I started building businesses. But more than anything, I'm glad I chose to start even though I wasn't very good. Feelings of fear and uncertainty have a way of making you feel unprepared.
Here's a tough question that forces you to consider the opposite side: How long will you put off what youâre capable of doing to maintain what youâre currently doing? If you donât start, how will you get any better?
1 Proverb Pic
Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well. Proverbs 5:15
My takeaway: This proverb highlights the need for us to cherish what is already ours and the pain of comparison when we go looking for more in other places. "Comparison is the thief of joy" is a quote attributed to Theodore Roosevelt. The quote and this proverb serve as a reminder that constantly comparing ourselves to others can lead to feelings of dissatisfaction, envy, and unhappiness.
Social media often leads to comparison because people share their best moments, making others feel like they don't measure up. Seeing these highlights can cause envy and self-doubt, making us compare ourselves to the seemingly perfect lives of others.
To overcome the tendency to compare ourselves to others, we must dismantle it at its root. The root of comparison is entitlement and envy. If you compare and find yourself greater than others, you feel superior. If you compare and find yourself short, you feel less than others.
When you play the comparison game, your sense of self-worth is fragile because youâre not related to God as you should be. No more or less acclamation, no amount of applause or accolades as compared to others, will fill that hole. Nothing will heal your heart except God himself looking at you and saying, âWell done, good and faithful servant.â The most effective way to do this is by focusing on the cross of Jesus. There, we are gloriously and happily cut down to size and are humbled. We deserve nothing, yet he gave us everything. Rather than comparing what we have to others, our hearts brim with gratitude that Jesus deems us worthy of any role in His plan.
Allow the cross to defeat the temptation to compare in your life by dismantling entitlement in your heart. Embrace your chances to serve Jesus in the domain He has assigned you. And then give thanks for the ways that others offer their serviceâno matter how their work compares to yours. You are on the same mission.
